10.26.2021 Begin, again.
I guess I gotta start with saying a big THANK YOU for sticking around on yet another channel with me with no content for a number of months. This started as a pandemic hobby, and of course, life happened eventually.
I have now read plenty of articles now on hacker news to understand that some of the best engineers are also great writers. While Instagram and YouTube are great, I am going to take advantage of my blog here to keep track of some of the exciting things I learn every day. Not just that, I have a lot of thoughts that I would not mind putting down into words. I see a few advantages of doing this:
1) It is my newest way of torturing myself out of free time that I can use for something else.
2) Jokes apart, I think it will make me get back to lesser doom-scrolling and more reading.
3) I write a lot of documentation at work, but after much procrastination. I avoid writing as long as I can, and I can see how it can become troublesome sooner rather than later for a variety of reasons. I believe that becoming “a person who writes” will also translate into my job. As an applied scientist, an unsaid rule that will not only help me get promoted but also help me gain points in the industry is writing and publishing papers. I have truly come to believe that writing is not so much about liking or loving to write, but having the patience and discipline to translate your thoughts on paper (or the web).
4) This blog will be a personal journal of my thoughts. I am sharing them for accountability. While they may/may not resonate with anyone else, I think it will be a nice experiment to allow for reflection in the future. What will 40-year old Akriti think of 28-year old Akriti? We’ll see how long this lasts.
I plan to make this as informal as possible to avoid over-thinking before hitting the “submit” button. My best guess right now is that this will be mixture of technical blogs with life - currently that involves a lot of applied machine learning, personal finance, coffee and personal branding. Until today, it also involved a lot of TikTok - although I am purely there on the app as a s(croller)pectator. One of my favorite accounts to follow is that of Emily Mariko - it calms me down every time I watch a video from her. After a bit of stalking, I found out that she worked for big-tech not so long ago herself, and her fiancé, Matt, still works (for Google, I believe) in big tech. Now, he writes an article a day himself here. While I am in no position to commit to everyday writing yet, we’ll see if that is a distant goal to accomplish in the next few months.
If you haven’t checked out my website, yet, now might be a good time to do so. I will be posting on my website more frequently but I might come back to my newsletter for the more informal and “exclusive” articles. Like today, you are the only ones who get a sneak peek into the next few weeks of my thoughts. Please share this newsletter with your friends if you think the content might be useful for them. As always, you can directly reply to this email if you have any questions for me, or if you just want to say hi :)
Keep safe,
Akriti
